Where in Indiana is a good place to live?
Where in Indiana is a good place to live?
My husband and I are still in our 20's and looking to move to Indiana but what towns have the best public or private schools? (we have a 2yr old son) We would like to stay in or near the Indianapolis Area (my mother lives in Greenwood and would care for my son while i work)

Carmel, just outside the belt highway on the north side.
2
Carmel and Fishers. They both have really nice neighborhoods and the schools are good.
3
I lived in Indianapolis for three years. I would recommend the Broadripple area for a young family like yours. However, I don't know a lot about the school system there.
4
mooresville
5
I lived in Noblesville and Fishers. I would choose Fishers by far. It's wonderful here. I like the schools here, and the neighbors are nice. fishers in in Hamilton County and about a 20 minute commute to Indianapolis. If you choose to move to Indianapolis, make sure you pick a good part of Indy, some areas are very rough.
6
Why not Greenwood or Johnson county to be closer to your mom?
7
Columbus, just a few miles south of Indianapolis. It has great schools and the people are friendly! I lived there five years!Nice clean town!
8
Indianapolis is a ghetto dump. IPS is horrid!! Hendricks County is okay. Morgan County is really pretty and I think Johnson County (Greenwood) is so congested it isnt even fun to be there. Mooresville has good schools and so does Plainfield and Carmel-Clay schools are supposed to be good.
9
Shelbyville, if you like the country. Or, Broadripple.

What's so great about the state of Indiana?
What's so great about the state of Indiana?
No offense to those who live here, but I hate this place. I moved here a year ago and you'd think it would grow on me by now, but it just sucks. It's probably just the town I live in because its so small. The nearest cities (Richmond, Muncie) are considered big to the town im in. They're small and boring too. All Indiana has that I know of is Indianapolis, which is too far away from me to matter. I miss Ohio. This state has weird laws and rules in school that are completely different than what im used to. My life was ruined when I moved here and I cant wait for another year to go by so I can move out. ughhh sorry. i needed to vent. so dont be angry. You'd hate it too if you were 17, taken away from family, boyfriend youve had for 2 years, church and friends, and your home and pets to be placed in the middle of corn fields with dramatic pricks at school. I havent made one friend. Ive been nice, invited ppl over and im usually a friendly person whos easy to getalong with. But no one here will accept me because im new and they already have their friends. it really sucks. I want out.

To me it sounds like that you are out in the woods or in a rural area. If you are then it is hard to do much if you live away form anything that is fun. Rural areas are not to be compared t the city goers at all, if you were near Indy or a college town you would make fiend's if they were close to you. I have been to missouri and lived and did not like it there either because we lived out in a rural area.I lived in Indy most of my life and then went to Hawaii and Guam I did not like either of them . Perhaps you need to join a church group or school group and make some friends that way. Some times it takes time and you have to make the best of what you have. I find the people in Indiana quite hospitable for the most part and yes you will have a few snobs but I have been to much worse places then Indiana. Maybe time to see if you need to change in some ways. If you came from a large town or city there is a huge difference then living in the suburbs where it is not so busy. Some people have a hard time making new friends and it can be rough. Hang in there it will get better maybe you moved under bad circumstances and have a bad attitude you are not aware of. Feel free to vent email me and rant and rave or rant here but do not expect a ot of good answers or chat. To the person who said why does Pat get so many thumbs up and so on I have over twenty contacts that do vote for me as well I for them. I have been here for two years and try to give good answers if they think I do they vote that is what it is about. Get some fans on here and try it.

**wonders why Pat (above me) gets so many thumbs up when there are only 2 posts on this so far** I think he has several accounts and thumbs up himself! I live in Indianapolis and you are correct. When you are young it is not a great place to live. As you age, its good because you don't look for exciting things to do anymore. You just want to get from work to home within a reasonable amount of time.

Try not to get to upset with this but…you’re 17 you are going to hate everything in life. I have a 16 year old niece that hates everything too. There’s a saying, you get out of it what you put into it. If you hate someplace or thing just “because†then you probably will always hate it. You moved here from Ohio and hate it and laws and rules, you were vague here so don’t know what you are talking about, but think of it this way what if someone moved to your hometown? Do you think they would just love it at first sight? Probably not. Everything would be different to them just as it is to you moving to Indiana. You say your life is ruined, well I got news for you, moving isn't going to ruin your life and if a simple move to another state ruined your life then you are going to have serious trouble later on when real life problems confront you. My niece has lived in a bunch of different places and she hated all of them, so your life problem isn’t any different than any other teenager. If you take a I hate it attitude you probably will have troubles making friends. I know I would have trouble making friends with people who talk about how they hate it here by putting down their town and culture so to speak. You say you want out at the end of your post, are you going to want out every time life throws you a little curveball? At some point you will just have to tough if out. Remember no matter what someone puts on here or what gets voted the best answer you must chose which is the real best answer, if any.

While serving in the Guard, he earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in 1974 at Indiana University School of Law Indianapolis. In 1976, was elected to the U.S. Congress from Indiana's Fourth Congressional District, defeating eight-term incumbent Democrat J. Edward Roush. He won reelection in 1978 by the greatest percentage margin ever achieved to that date in the northeast Indiana district. In 1980, at age 33, became the youngest person ever elected to the U.S. Senate from the state of Indiana, defeating three-term incumbent Democrat Birch Bayh. James Danforth Quayle III (born February 4, 1947) was the 44th Vice President of the United States under George H. W. Bush (1989-1993). In 2000, he was an unsuccessful candidate to win the Republican nomination for President. YES - he would be a better candidate than Obama and he has/had much more experience - contrary to what the liberals said way back when...

RLP beat me to it . But also worth noting is that Dan got sucker-punched for mispelling 'potato(e)' , and realistically hardly any of the users on this site can spell simple words anyway . Plus the plural of 'potato' is 'potatoes'. .. .includes the 'e' . Not a big error .

Dan Quayle was one of the first victims of the Democrat policy of personal destruction that they have been directing against their opponents ever since. Lies, obfuscation and personal ridicule are the weapons of the Democrats. They did it to Quayle and they are doing it to Bush. *

I live in Indiana, and to me we dress the same as anyone else. We have the same stores, like Old Navy, Gap, Kohls, etc.

Well we are kind of like most general american teens, we aren't completely out of the norm or anything. Portions here in southern Indiana have tones of scene kids. Right now that seems to be the in kind of thing, the ones here that try to go for the "redneck" look here get laughed at. I try not to because I would like to keep my character up but sometimes it is just so effing hard. It is hard to take someone serious in cowboy boots, putting on a fake accent, and a belt buckle. Also being "gangsta" is coming in a little bit. For the norm though, we keep it department store style. We keep it to the American Eagle, Rue 21, Aéro (generally middle school age though), a lot of girls here in this area like Charlotte Russe, Wet Seal, etc. Like I said though general American fashion though. I don't know if it is because I'm a senior in high school, but I think that we are dressing more mature than we really ever have before. Shoes converse are always big, some people do wear boots into a fashionable manner (risky and rare), boat shoes are really popular right now, girls love flats, and general tennis shoes/sneakers. Crocs and beaver creeks are probably the most hated shoes and no one thinks they are cute; however some people continue the wearing of beaver creeks because they are "comfie."

Well, the girls here are pretty trashy and mostly follow what eachother are doing. Makeup: Well, most of them are super-tan from tanning beds. Heavy, caked on, all around eyeliner. Clothing: Any form of jeans. Hollister or Abercrombie tees and polos. (Exciting, right?) Hoodies of the boring variety. Shoes: Muffins Flipflops Uggs Nike gym shoes I live there I hope I helped you I am not lying, all the girls here look exactly the same. I hope to move out of this pit soon. (:

What's a great photography school?
In Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, or Illinois. Preferably only 2-4 hours from Indianapolis and preferably in/near a city that gets a lot of major concerts rolling through (music is my love, I can't go to a school away from live music)

Hands down, NYIP - New York Institute of Photography. They have a remote learning course that is two years long and absolutely amazing. I have met so many amazing photographers that have been through their course and I'm proud to be a part of the NYIP family. Unlike most, its not online. They send you course materials and you mail back assignments for a real prof. to critique and send back. The one on one critique of your photos is worth the price alone.

You can look each school up at www.collegeboard.com. If the front page for the school says they are "proprietary", then you know.
2
I can narrow down your list. The following are definitely NOT "for profit": Central Florida Appalachian State Nebraska Minnesota State George Mason West Florida Indiana Perdue UNC Charlotte UT Chattanooga Oklahoma Emporia State Missouri State You can check the rest.

Online high school? I'm going to drop regular high school, and need fast help?!?
I'm going to stop regular high school, and I'm going to go into online classes. I really don't care how it happens, as long as it does. I'm in southern Indiana, and I'm 16. My high school hasn't been working out with me, and I've just wanted to set myself apart, and do classes over the summer, catch up on classes, etc. Can you enroll midyear, and are there any schools where you can predominately do it online? Because the location I'm in the middle of nowhere for schools. The closest learning center is in Indianapolis, and that's 120 miles away. I'm needing a solution very fast, and I've been looking at all these different options, but I'm wondering if anybody here has any advice?

Who has more experience Dan Quayle or Barry Soetoro?
Who has more experience Dan Quayle or Barry Soetoro?
to be fair, I will use a Republican who has been labeled the weakest political person to run for white house. Dan Quayle After spending much of his youth in Arizona, he graduated from Huntington High School in Huntington, Indiana, in 1965. He then matriculated at DePauw University, where he received his B.A. degree in political science in 1969, and where he was a member of the fraternity Delta Kappa Epsilon. After receiving his degree, Quayle joined the Indiana Army National Guard and served from 1969–1975, attaining the rank of Sergeant. While serving in the Guard, he earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in 1974 at Indiana University School of Law Indianapolis. It was at law school where Dan met his wife, Marilyn, who was taking night classes at the time. They married ten weeks later on November 18, 1972 and have three children: Tucker, Benjamin, and Corinne. Quayle's public service began in July 1971 when he became an investigator for the Consumer Protection Division of the Indiana Attorney General's Office. Later that year, he became an administrative assistant to Governor Edgar Whitcomb. From 1973 to 1974, he was the Director of the Inheritance Tax Division of the Indiana Department of Revenue. Upon receiving his law degree, Quayle worked as associate publisher of his family's newspaper, the Huntington Herald-Press, and practiced law with his wife in Huntington. In 1976, Quayle was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Indiana's Fourth Congressional District, defeating eight-term incumbent Democrat J. Edward Roush. He won reelection in 1978 by the greatest percentage margin ever achieved to that date in the northeast Indiana district. In 1980, at age 33, Quayle became the youngest person ever elected to the U.S. Senate from the state of Indiana, defeating three-term incumbent Democrat Birch Bayh. Making Indiana political history again, Quayle was reelected to the Senate in 1986 with the largest margin ever achieved to that date by a candidate in a statewide Indiana race. His 1986 victory was notable because several other Republican Senators elected in 1980 were not returned to office. In April 1999, he announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for 2000, attacking George W. Bush by saying "we do not want another candidate who needs on-the-job training". --- Barry Soetoro Community Organizer 143 Day Senator Yes to FISA Limo Attendant, Nightclubs Billion dollars Billz to Africa Teleprompter Stock Holder

to be fair, I will use a Republican who has been labeled the weakest political person to run for white house. How do I get started with EMT training classes?
How do I get started with EMT training classes?
I am in Indiana and have browsed IUPUI's website (Indianapolis). I am wanting to know what steps I need to take to become an EMT. If someone is or has been an EMT, please let me know what kind of school you had, how long it took, and how you got started. Thanks.

in california, you can take EMT classes at any junior college or at any state college. they also have accelerated/specialized programs that you can take but they end up being way more expensive. in ca you can enroll for the classes after youve become certified in CPR (CPR classes usually only take about a weekend to complete) good luck!

I am a current EMT-B in Maryland. Every state has it's own systems and methods of training. Maryland mandates you have an affiliation with a Fire Department or other Company that has a approved medical director. Then you have to take a course that is either is run by county or by fire dept academy classes. In MD the class is about 130 hours. and your certification last for 3 years. You have to take continuing ED classes that equal 24 hours to get re certified. Indiana will have different laws that will enable you to obtain the certification. Just a thought, I would go for a Nationally Registered certification. This will allow you to go any where and practice. Most states do not recognize other states certifications. Good luck remember to study!

In IL our local CC has two great EMT programs. They are two year programs I would check out community colleges by you.

Each state has its own set of prerequisites for an EMT program. Arizona, the state I am certified in, requires current TB testing, fingerprints, English 101, 18+ years of age, and some other formalities. The best place to take EMT classes, in my opinion, are Community colleges (Junior colleges). There it is cheap, and you earn college credits. 4 hours a day, two days a week, for 16 weeks was the length of my class. Also, you have two out-of-class requirements, a ride-a-long with a fire department, and a shift in an ER. At the end of the class you take 2 separate tests. First you State certification through the DHS and the second is your national (NREMT). That's the easy part. The tough part, in this day and age, is getting hired.

you can still go to college, just get a 25 on your ACT and get into Purdue Lafayette
2
Put forth all of the effort that you can in the time that you have left in school. Study hard for your SAT/ACT. Participate in extracurricular activities to beef up your application. If as your teacher says, you do need to get to level, you could always start out at Ivy Tech (the downtown campus is actually pretty big) to get your prerequisites out of the way and then transfer to the 4 year college of your choice. Good luck :)

Does anyone know where to find a training school that would redo a classic car for a project for little or no$
I live in Indianapolis Indiana and my son has this 1967 Skylark that needs a little interior work done and a paint job ect ect..its kinda rough looking..I hoped someone out there would have heard something or knew of a program that would take on these old relics and use them for training purposes and then give them back when they are done..for a final grade project or something like that..It just seems a shame to just let it sit there..I can't fix it up for him and he is a student so he has no money. Try the local Automotive/Body schools. They might be able to help or at least direct to some place that could. Maybe even some high schools out there. In my area it's the local Automotive school where they train the mechanics.
2
my best friend in high school had one of them, good times, lol. I have heard of the thing you're looking for, you need to check with your local vocational schools, some teach auto mechanicx or auto body repair, they usually have the students do their own cars, but some are busy enough to have openings for others. there is usually a waiting list you can get on, expect to pay for all parts and maybe a small fee. good luck, let me know if you get lucky and find one!
