That would be Lawrence North and yes it is a good school system.

Two public school systems tie for "best" in Indianapolis: Lawrence Metropolitan School District (Lawrence MSD) and Washington Township Metropolitan School District (Washington Twp MSD). That being said, both are deteriorating--too much emphasis on building and too little on education, recently. There is one thing you must be warned about. The district boundaries in Indianapolis can be different depending on your race. If you aren't black and live in parts of the Lawrence MSD or Washington Twp MSD, your children have a good chance of NOT going to one of these schools. Instead, they will be sent to a school in the Indianapolis Public Schools district, which is the worst in the state. This is not rumor but is part of the "integration" policy of the county. When you look at a place to live, contact the school district and ask specifically what school is for that address--and specify your race. I found several likely properties that I had to reject because my children would have been sent to IPS because we aren't black.

MSD of Pike Township is really great. I live in Pike Township and I attend Pike High School and in my opinion, Pike is the best school that I have attended. They have excellent teachers and a very beautiful campus.

If you're going to work in Indianapolis and don't mind a little commute in the morning then I would suggest moving to the Hamilton Southeastern School District. This school system is the best in Indiana and their test scores prove it. They always are ranked the highest in all the public school categories.

Castleton is an area not a school system. There is Castleton Square Mall which is the largest mall in Indiana. People often refer to this area as "Hassleton" because of the traffic. Definately stay away from Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS). Lawrence Township (especially Lawrence North) is very good as quite a few of the students live in the Geist Reservoir area. Washington Township like North Central are OK as well. Bottomline the best schools in the state and top 5% in the country are in Hamilton County. Carmel, Hamilton Southeastern, and even an emerging Westfield are tops in graduation rate, athletics, ACT/SAT scores, etc.
